Shitokai - Whangarei
Karatedo Shitokai NZ is the longest established Karate club in Whangarei, having been formed in 1968, and has been continually in operation since then. It is a founding member of Karate NZ, and has been an active member ever since.
The club is also the NZ representative member for the World Shitoryu Karate Federation and the Asian Pacific Shitoryu Karate Federation, and attends World and Regional Shitoryu tournaments. The club has produced many NZ Champions and NZ Representatives over the years, but we realise that not everyone who practises Karate wishes to compete, so club trainings are devoted to traditional Shitoryu Karate, with all competition coaching conducted outside normal club training sessions.
Karatedo Shitokai NZ is affilliated to the Hasegawa Karate School based in Kofu, Japan, and follows traditional Mabuni Shitoryu teaching and training methods. The club regularly brings out Yukimitsu Hasegawa, Head Instructor of the Hasegawa Karate School, to help improve the standard of the club's students.
