NZ Open -opening ceremony with Japanese drums

The New Zealand Open is an international tournament organised by Karate New Zealand with the Canterbury/Westland Karate Association.

The Championships was held on 21st-22nd April at the Pioneer Sports Stadium, 75 Lyttleton Street, in Christchurch.
Day 1 was for competitors 13 years and Under
Day 2 was for competitors 14 years and Over

Karate has been added to the Sports Programme for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). So there were also teams from Australia and New Caledonia which set a record-breaking number of competitors for these championships. The Opening Ceremony with began with traditional Japanese drumming.
