Team Kumite at the 2024 NZ National Championships - North Island v South Island

We are excited to announce the North Island and South Island Kumite Teams! Players not initially selected for the North or South teams were placed into a pool to complete the categories. Athletes are not ranked but will be strategically assigned to either the A or B position to compete against the opposing team's A or B athlete, respectively. The positions for A and B will be determined by coaches on the day.

We have adjusted some of the WKF rules specifically for this team Kumite event:

  • No senshu rule—athletes must continue to push forward.

  • Each athlete will have one bout against an opponent in the same age division.

  • A running stop clock will keep the momentum going:

    • U14: 120 seconds

    • 14 to U18: 150 seconds

    • 18 and older: 180 seconds

Except for the last 15 seconds, the clock will stop only for injuries.

      Points awarded as follows:

  • Winner by Three or More Points:

The winner earns 4 points if they win by a margin of three or more points.

  • Regular Win:

The winner earns 3 points if they win by fewer than three points.

  • Draw:

Each competitor earns 2 points in the case of a draw.

  • Loss:

The loser earns 1 point for a loss (assuming they competed).

  • Failure to Show:

If athletes fail to show up, they are penalised -2 points from their team score.

The opponent is automatically awarded the win and receives 4 points

(as if they had won by three or more points).

Get ready for an exciting competition!
