Last but not least, it was the Central North Island region's turn to roll out the fitness test protocol. So off to sunny Tauranga it was on 3 December, 2017.
With this test, the 2017 schedule of first compulsory fitness tests as outlined in KNZCC2 and facilitated by the Olympic Solidarity National Athlete Programme, would be completed.
Summer has most definitely arrived as again we were all greeted by blue skies and sunshine which made for a sweaty affair! It allowed for the use of the hockey turf outside and ‘enjoy’ the RAST outdoors!
I am happy to announce that this region now has 3 Fitness Test Facilitators: Joe McGregor, Keith Crawford and Binh Nguyen. And Auckland get to add Christopher Bennett to their list of facilitators. Congratulations!
A special thank you to Jojina Scott for her help with the data processing on the day, and to Sian Scott for assisting me with some of the tests that she was not able to take part due to her leg injury.
Testing took place at Tauranga Boys College, Tauranga and was attended by 22 athletes in total - 12 junior and senior athletes of the Senior Premier Athletes from this region and Auckland, and 10 enthusiastic cadets and children who want to stay ahead of the game. All athletes duly presented themselves, completed the KNZ profile sheets, and gave consent to being photographed and filmed.
The following tests took place:
- Yoyo test
- McCloy Fitness Test
- Hexagonal Obstacle Test
- T Drill Test
- Sargent Jump Test
All athletes were briefed and each test was explained to them in detail. The protocol took approximately 3 hours to run with 22 athletes, thanks to the excellent team work of the Facilitators and the help of a number of greatly appreciated volunteers.
The following junior and senior athletes took part:
- Antonino Motuliki
- Ashton Carter
- Eden Holly
- Jose Castillo
- Joshua Martinsen
- Liam Singer
- McKenzie Tuala-Pine
- Raukawa Jeffries
- Samuel Fisk
- Sevita Laufoli
- Sian Scott
- Zak Scott
As I mentioned above, all regions have now been exposed to the new fitness test protocols and I look forward to it being fully implemented twice a year from 2018.
Yours in Karate,
